As maid of honor you will have the opportunity to raise a glass in salute to the newly married couple. This is a moment that you will long remember, as will the bride and groom. Share in their happiness, toast to their joyous future, and let them hear your words of love and friendship.
You can begin by introducing yourself to the guests who are present. Hold your glass in the air as you address the happy couple, and make sure that you are looking at them. Many people forget that eye contact is really an important part of any celebratory toast. You do not have to ‘stare anyone down’ but just let the honorees know that this is a very special time during the wedding reception and you are taking your responsibility in a serious manner.
Even so, this does not mean that your toast needs to be carefully scripted in advance. Feel free to ad lib if you are comfortable speaking in public and can think on your feet. You should keep your toast brief but personal and let the bride know that you really care about her and her new husband. Your maid of honor toast can be humorous or serious, but it must be tastefully done. No off-color remarks or suggestive innuendoes, please. Share a memory, share some tears but most of all share in the joy of this wonderful wedding day.
